“SIMBANG GABI” – Novena Mass – December 16-24, 2016

BACKGROUND:

Simbang GabiIn the Philippines, these novena masses are celebrated in the morning, 4-5am or in the evening 6-7pm. It is also called “Misa de Gallo” (mass when the cock crows) or “Misa de Aguinaldo”. This is a very much desired Filipino religious tradition. Back home, families wake up early, attend Mass and fill many churches. After the liturgy, delicious Filipino food and delicacies are served and shared by families. Thus this Novena becomes both a religious and social gathering.

ACTIVITIES:

In the Las Vegas valley, “Simbang Gabi 2016” is celebrated in different parishes at their regular mass time, as published in parish bulletins. Parishioners are invited to attend and participate the novena. The Pastor/Associate at the assigned parish may preside the liturgy. Visiting priests may be welcome to concelebrate. The readings of the day are read and proclaimed. A simple reception/fellowship takes place after mass.

TIN CAN SUNDAY

TIN CAN SUNDAY – LAST SUNDAY OF THE MONTH

canThe last Sunday of every month, Christ the King Catholic Community encourages their parishioners to bring a can of non-perishable food per household member to our Sunday services to benefit our food pantry serving the hungry in the Spring Valley area of our valley.

We ask everyone to generously remember to bring a can or cans depending on the number in your household, starting Sunday, Feb. 28, 2016. We encourage a variety of foods, as we often run out of meat products such as chili, stew, ravioli, soup, Vienna sausage and tuna. These supplies can be purchased much cheaper at some of the local dollar stores here in town.
